State-Space Approach to Calculate Sensitivity of Dynamic Response

The dynamic responses of a prestressed Euler-Bernoulli beam due to sinusoidal excitation are calculated by the state space approach. The sensitivities of displacement and acceleration responses with respect to the prestressing force are then calculated in the time domain, and they are compared with those from using Newmark method [1]. Computation simulation with a simply supported prestressed beam illustrates that both the dynamic responses and sensitivities calculated from the state space method is more efficient and both methods have the same accuracy.Copyright © 2004 by ASME
