THE STOLMA BRIDGE - WORLD RECORD OF FREE CANTILEVERING

The Stolma Bridge with its main span of 30I m has the currently world record of free-cantilevering concrete bridges. High strength concrete with lightweight aggregate was used for parts of the main span. The exposed location direct on the shore of the North Sea demands special consideration of durability and construction. The design and construction was carried out on the basis of the long Norwegian experience with this type of bridge. Special attention was given to construction with the lightweight aggregate and conditions related to the increased span width and to the cross-section height.
