Dynamic response of rectangular plates of composite materials subjected to impact loads

A numerical formulation is compared with an analytical solution of the response of a simply-supported composite plate subjected to an impact load. Both solutions utilize the technique of Fourier series expansion for the solution of the dynamic plate equations. The numerical solution utilizes the Newmark integration method to solve the non-linear integral equation. The analytical formulation adopts the Laplace transform technique, requiring a linearization of the contact deformation and consequently to determine a linear contact stiffness. The contact forces, displacements and strains results are compared for a squared and a rectangular plate.
