EXTREME VALUES OF NON-LINEAR MOTION AND LOADS IN OCEAN TOWING AND MOORING SYSTEMS

This paper deals with the problem of estimating the dynamic response of marine towlines and mooring lines in a random seaway. A set of mathematical models is used in order to obtain an appropriate description of the dynamic motions and forces. The results of the analysis agree reasonably well with model test results. The numerical example illustrated is a tug-towline system, but methods and conclusions are also applicable to spread-mooring systems, tension leg platforms, single point mooring systems, and dynamic positioning systems.
