Technical and functional aspects of electronic journal systems developed in TULIP and EES projects

Abstract An overview is presented of the architectures and systems of current Elsevier Electronic Subscriptions (EES) customers as well as the systems developed by the participants in the TULIP project. The differences and the similarities between the various solutions are discussed, in addition to how well particular systems/services are integrated with other and with existing systems and services. An overview of functions for electronic journal systems is provided, based on these systems. A special note on page viewing/printing with PDF files is provided. This paper contains excerpts from the TULIP Final Report [1] and draws from several articles that appeared in the special “TULIP” edition of Library Hi Tech [2].
