Finite-element analysis (FEA) as an EMC prediction tool

The benefits of using the powerful electromagnetic software based on FEA techniques that is now becoming commercially available are examined. These programs are potentially capable of analyzing the complex electromagnetic environment surrounding modern shipboard electronic systems and/or antennas. The output of one FEA program used as a compartmental electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) prediction tool is discussed. The FEA program results are compared to the calculated results for a typical radiating EMI source, a radiating wire over a ground plane, and both predictions are compared with validating measurements. >
