Numerical analysis of asymmetric rolling accounting for differences in friction

Abstract Asymmetric rolling is relevant to a number of situations of practical interest. Here, asymmetric plate rolling due to different interface friction conditions at the two rolls is analysed numerically. The variation of the normal and frictional contact stresses at the interface between the plate and the upper and lower roll is presented. The differences in contact stress variation result in curling of the plate, here illustrated by a curled plate mesh.
