Increasing of subway lines capability through moving block signaling systems: Modeling and simulation

The continuous public transport demand growth requires new solution to increase the vehicle traffic using the same infrastructures. This is particularly sensible in subway systems for which the construction of new lines is very expensive and impactful in urban areas. A solution is the adoption of new signaling systems that are able to increase the line traffic reducing the headway between two trains. The paper presents fixed and moving block signaling system models to evaluate the best solution for an increasing of subway line capability.
