Modelling of static thrust characteristics of cylindrical linear switched reluctance actuator

This paper presents a method for rapid estimation of the magnetisation data characteristics of the cylindrical linear switched reluctance actuator needed in predicting its performance from geometric data and B-H characteristic of an actuator (prototype or hypothetical). These characteristics are used for the prediction of the phase static force. Comparison of results obtained by computation show reasonable agreement in terms of the shape of the static force vs. position curve, peak and average value of the force. The method enables obtaining an approximate insight into the value of the static force which the actuator is able to produce without using a sophisticated software package for numerical field analysis.
