Dynamics of the ferroelectric fluctuations in barium titanate

The ferroelectric fluctuations in cubic BaTiO3 are described in terms of two parameters, a coupling constant J and a hopping time h/r, which can be deduced from the correlation length and the dispersion law of the ferroelectric mode. The ferroelectric mode can be observed as pseudo-harmonic by neutron scattering at large momentum transfer, but if r ∽ J, it is overdamped at the zone centre and its linewidth can be calculated.
