Als Kernbestandteile der Internet-Technologie werden standardisierte Kommunikationsprotokolle und Instrumente zur Vereinfachung der Benutzerschnittstelle angesehen. Die unternehmungsinterne Nutzung der Internet-Technologie fuhrt zur Entstehung so genannter Intranets. Von der Fahigkeit, umfangreiche Informationsbestande bereitzuhalten sowie diese schnell uber prinzipiell unbegrenzte Distanzen und unabhangig von der zeitlichen Prasenz eines Kommunikationspartners ubermitteln und abfragen zu konnen, gehen die nachhaltigsten Organisationsimpulse aus.
