GIS-Based Passive Location Method by Inverse Calculation

In order to overcome the influence of complex geographical environment on location of emitter, this paper proposes a passive localization method by signal magnitude reverse calculation based on GIS (Geographical Information System). In this method, the magnitude of suspected signal source for each monitoring station could be acquire by radio propagation models. Through the comparison of magnitude distribution maps of suspected signal source, the position with equal magnitude is the estimated position. This method converts the distance and direction solving problems into the path attenuation problem, which can effectively reduce the influence of electromagnetic wave diffraction and multipath effects. Through simulation and verification of electromagnetic simulation on software WRAP, it is confirmed that this method can achieve the positioning of unknown signal sources in complex geographical environments.
