Multiple parameters estimation simultaneously for DS-SS/BPSK signal based on fourth-order cumulant 2D slice

Direct sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) signals have been widely used in military systems to counter jamming or to provide low probability of interception and detection. Since the DS-SS signal uses a large bandwidth, the power spectral density can be below the noise level. Hence, such a signal is difficult to detect. We propose a detection method based on fourth-order cumulant 2D slice for a DS-SS/BPSK signal far below the noise level. It does not require a priori knowledge about the signal, and can estimate the carrier frequency and the symbol period simultaneously. The validity of this method, even in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions, has been shown by computer simulation.
