In the elementary curriculum, which is often fragmented into subject areas, experiences in reading may not readily transfer to other areas. This need not be the case. Language experience, for example, is an effec tive way to build an understanding of science concepts, where children's experiences provide science observa tions that are recorded for reading and extension activities.
