Optimal Allocation of STATCOM for Voltage Stability and System Loadability

In this paper, the optimal allocation of Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is determined in power systems using Wale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). The maximum system loadability is obtained by Continuation Power Flow (CPF). Both of WOA and CPF are combined together to optimize multi objective function aimed to maximize loadability and minimize both of voltage stability index and power system losses. Standard IEEE 57-bus test system is chosen to validate the proposed algorithm. The obtained results are compared with Moth Flame Optimization technique (MFO) as a recent and efficient optimization method. The obtained results prove the ability of the proposed algorithm for solving the optimization problem with competitive solutions. Comparison reveals the efficiency and robustness of the proposed approach to consolidate the power system voltage stability, loadability and reduce total power losses with faster and smooth convergence.
