Cochlear implant technology

The cochlear implant is the first sensory neuroprosthetic implant to reach the commercial marketplace. By virtue of this distinction, it sets a precedent for implantable electronic systems of tomorrow. The present state of cochlear implant technology, as well as possibilities for the future, is reviewed in this article.
