DESIGN OF WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORK BY A NON-ITERATIVE TWO-STAGE OPTIMIZATION

ABSTRACT A non-iterative two-stage linear programming based optimization model is proposed for the design of water distribution networks. Being non-iterative, the model is simpler than the iterative models proposed by others. In the first stage, the optimal flow distribution is found. In the second stage, the formulation is to find the optimum cost for the optimally distributed flow; i.e. the diameters of pipe segments in each link are found. Thus the result of the first stage is being used in the second stage. The results obtained by the proposed algorithm are better and/or comparable with the already published results for the benchmark problems.
