One of the indispensible tools for aviation training is flight simulation. A trainee's performance in simulated flight conditions is often used to make important decisions relating to the acquisition and certification of aircrew proficiency. This paper looks at the possibility that a high dependency on simulation can bring about questions about the validity of the reason that led to employment or rejection. The paper examines the decision making process of those involved in the design, manufacture, regulation and operation of flight simulators to justify their decisions. It is recommended that the involved culture should be able to acknowledge that simulation has limitations and urges those undertaking training and assessment in flight simulators excercise care.
