Modeling and analysis of double stator synchronous machine for wind turbines

This paper investigates a double-stator permanent magnet synchronous generator. A new structure of the permanent magnet double-stator was designed for wind turbine. A precise model of the generator was built by FEMM software with finite element method to accurately calculate the equivalent the d and q synchronous reactance, rated current and voltage and other parameters. Compared with the calculations of traditional analysis method, the new method can obtain the results with a relatively small error. Then, the different control strategies for permanent magnet synchronous generator are researched. The maximum torque control strategy is used to minimize the armature current, and then copper loss of the generator.
