The Quality of Well-being Scale: rationale for a single quality of life index

This chapter provides an overview of the Quality of Well-Being Scale (QWB) and the General Health Policy Model from which it was derived. Our group argues that a single, comprehensive expression of quality of life (a combined index of morbidity and mortality) has many desirable features for policy analysis, evaluation research, and clinical investigation. A recurrent theme in several of our previous publications is that a single index of health status is both feasible and highly desirable2–5, 16, 17,19,20,23,31–33,36–47,55,56.
