Direct scene cut detection from MPEG coded bit streams

We propose a method to detect scene cuts from the MPEG coded bit streams. The method has a low computational complexity since it relies on the parameters of the macroblock types extracted from the bit stream. A 100% detection accuracy was achieved for the three test sequences, in addition to the exact determination of the frame type at which scene cut occured. The proposed method can be used as a tool for video indexing or key-frame allocations.
