Innovative Extraction Process Design and Optimization Using Design of Experimental Approach

Drug discovery from botanicals in the last three decades has been badly affected due to a lack of optimized methodologies in the sphere of extraction and chromatography. Isolation of pure bioactives has been the main area of focus for any natural product-related research overlooking several other allied areas. All the extraction procedures described in the previous chapter must be optimized in order to study the influence of several parameters on technological characteristics and on the physicochemical properties of the final product that will be obtained. The choice of appropriate parameters should be not only to increase the efficiency of the process to maximize the above-mentioned qualities but must also be focused on the areas of operation, safety, and expenditure of time and money. This chapter shall help researchers to get a better insight into the chemometric strategies of optimization and method development, which shall in turn improve the decision-making process in selection of influential extraction parameters.
