Color and gloss-the connection to process conditions

The demand for more precise molded-in color raises many questions for the molder. Specifically, understanding the relationship between final product color and the process conditions during molding is central to achieving consistency. A strategy of designed experiments was used to isolate the effects of process conditions including barrel and mold temperature, injection speed, pack and hold pressure. This strategy, produced data that would determine ff a given colorant could be made process capable. In addition, these data would allow for an educated decision about any system changes necessary to achieve the final desired color.
