Summary of Travel Trends: 1995 Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey

This report summarizes travel trends determined from the 1995 Nationwide Personal Transportation Survey. The survey obtains information on personal daily travel of U.S. households on trip purpose, means of transportation used, travel time, time of day, day of week, number of people in the vehicle, driver characteristics, and vehicle attributes. It also provides information by subgroups of population, e.g., by age, gender, race, zero-vehicle households. The sample size for the 1995 survey was 21,020 completed households, and 21,013 additional households collected for the use of and funded by five add-on areas - New York State, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Seattle Washington. Two changes were made in the survey method for the 1995 survey. A written diary was used to help respondents remember their travel. In addition, a household roster of trips was used to assist respondents in their recall of trips made with other household members.
