PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES: THE IMPORTANCE OF BUILDING LEADERSHIP CAPACITY

This paper highlights the importance of building leadership capacity in organisations that are seeking to promote more sustainable resource management practices. It also provides a review of the literature on environmental leadership and provides practical guidance on strategies to build leadership capacity. The paper s content is primarily derived from an international literature review conducted as part of research on emergent leaders who promote more sustainable forms of urban water management. The target audience for this paper is leadermanagers who are seeking to promote sustainable practices, have the power to implement leadership development initiatives in their organisations, and support the principle that leaders grow leaders .
