Optimizing the MPEG media transport forward error correction scheme

Today, when the content provider transmits a video, he usually uses forward error correcting to protect the packets which caused a lot of redundancy. If we know parts of the media stream are more important than others, we can uses bandwidth more efficiently. In this paper, we analyze the structure of the video stream, the frame types and the dependence among frames and propose an optimized scheme for MMT FEC and redefine some fields to support this scheme. With this scheme, the sender can effectively adapt to the fluctuation of network state, optimally allocate network bandwidth and adaptively adjust coding strength and redundancy, which maximizes the frame rate on receiver. we may give key video frames more coding strength and unimportant frames less coding strength so as to save bandwidth resource while continuing the guarantee of the user quality of experience (QoE).
