Overload and congestion control for intelligent network based broadband call processing systems

Novel services increase the call processing complexity which often impacts on the maximum number of admitted calls. We consider a broadband network in which service requests are processed by intelligent network (IN) functions. We develop a congestion control algorithm that protects the network from overload and evaluate its performance using well defined models that are able to represent complex higher level protocols and IN functional entities. It is shown that the proposed mechanism maximises the number of admitted calls with acceptable call set up delay.
