With the progress of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technologies, Navier-Stokes equations have been applied to many transonic aeroelastic analyses such as flutter simulations for the accurate prediction of nonlinear aerodynamics. Importance of the nonlinear aerodynamics such as the shock wave motion has been fully recognized through those numerical analyses and also experimental studies. In the transonic flutter simulations, only the linear structural methods like modal analysis are often used for the computation of structural deformation and are considered to be enough approaches for the accurate flutter predictions. Nonlinearities in structure, therefore, have not been almost discussed in the transonic flutter simulations compared with those in aerodynamics.
