ALL-OPTICAL FILTERS FOR DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM, WAVELET PACKET DECOMPOSITION AND DISCRTE FOURIER TRANSFORM

We design all-optical architectures to perform the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), the Wavelet Packet (WP) decomposition and the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) of optical digital signals. We give the design guidelines to synthesize optical wavelet filters as twoport lattice-form planar devices. The all-optical signal processing has the advantage of being able to process broad-band signals and by combining the optical filtering and the two-dimensional capability of the multiresolution analysis an overall capacity improvement of the systems can be provided. For the DWT and the WP decomposition different subband filtering schemes, using different quadrature mirror filters (QMFs), are possible.
