Research on Mitigating the Insider Threat to Information Systems - #2

Abstract : The August, 2000 invitational workshop reported on here, held in Arlington, VA, is one of a series of recent activities sponsored by DARPA, NSA, DoD/C31 and other government agencies addressing the insider threat to critical Defense and U.S. infrastructure information systems. That threat is considered one of the most significant, with attributes distinguishing it from others and therefore needing special attention. This three-day workshop provided participants with a number of background reading papers and a set of plenary presentations by experts that recapped previous workshops and reports, and highlighted relevant research underway. Participants were chosen from academia, industry, government, and the U.S. military; some had attended previous workshops, for continuity, others provided new contacts and perspectives.
