On the Allman triangle and a related quadrilateral element

Abstract Allman has introduced a plane triangular element whose nodal d.o.f. are two displacements and one rotation at each corner. In this note, the Allman element is regarded as the result of applying a coordinate transformation to an element that has midside nodes. Thus, the technique is easily applied to elements other than triangles. Results for the analogous quadrilateral are presented.
