Resistance of stored rice without lipoxygenase-3 against confused flour beetle, Tribolium confusum du Val (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) and its underlying mechanisms

Tribolium confusum du Val (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) adults responded positively to volatiles emitted from stored rice with lipoxygenase-3 (LOX3). However, there was no significant difference between fresh rice with and without LOX-3. The development and reproductive success of T. confusum was not influenced by rice grain LOX-3 presence or absence. The loss of LOX-3 was quite related to the tropism of T. confusum, the main volatile pentanal of rice grains during storage might be attractant to T. confusum. Rice grain’s volatiles produced by LOX-3 during storage are attractant to T. confusum, if LOX-3 is absent, that would affect the tropism of T. confusum.
