Professional Engineers : A New Definition?

The paper investigates the characteristics of the New Zealand economy and identifies the tasks within it that have the potential of being filled by professional engineers. It then looks at the nature and role of those tasks and identifies the competencies and individual traits and attributes necessary to successfully complete those tasks. Using these it develops are new competency based definition of a professional engineer.
