Study on network measurement technologies and performance evaluation methods

Network measurement and evaluation is one of important means for dealing with network theory researches, management and engineer development. In this paper, evolution of IP network measurement is reviewed at first. Then, basic concepts and various technologies of network measurement are introduced, including active performance measurement, passive flow measurement, network tomography and network probe. Afterwards, performance evaluation index and several popular network performance evaluation methods are explored. Finally, brief summarization is given.
