Interferometric Investigations of the Rabbit Urinary Bladder. I. Holographic Registration of Bladder Deformations in vitro

The blind biopsy applied frequently today as a method of planning bladder-operations is unsatisfactory especially because it is accompanied by additional physiological stress and therefore by an additional risk for the patient. The aim of this examination, the early recognition of cancerous indurations of the submucosa and the quantitative determination of their extension in the bladder wall, can not be achieved by classic endoscopy but it could probably be done by combining endoscopy with a suitable method of strain-stress registration as e. g. holographic interferometry. Applying this it should be possible to deduce the extension of areas and the degree of the elastic tissue alterations in these areas from the interference pattern of the pressure loaded bladder.
