International Standards Organizations

Much of the original work in the area of internationalization was done by Xerox Corporation, notably in their Palo Alto Research Center in California. With that as an inspiration, HP developed their Native Language Support system, as shown in the previous chapter. With those graphic examples showing not only the feasibility of internationalizing software, but the tremendous advantage of doing so, many other companies took the idea and expanded upon it themselves. Notable in this list are three of the biggest minicomputer vendors in the computer industry; AT&T, Digital and IBM.
