Fuzzy optimal control and simulation of battery-ultracapacitor dual-energy source storage system for pure electric vehicle

In order to enhance the performance of pure electric vehicle (PEV), the dual-energy source storage system, which is composed of battery and Ultracapacitor, is established. By employing fuzzy logic control theory, the energy management control strategy is presented according to the energy requirement for PEV. It can split the power between battery and ultracapacitor in a more reasonable way to satisfy the demands of better performance. The result shows that the dual-energy source management system with fuzzy optimal control strategy is more effective than logic threshold control strategy in reducing the current of battery, enhancing the start-up and acceleration performance of PEV, improving the energy recovery efficiency and prolonging its driving range.
