An open architecture that manages quality of service within reinforced ad hoc networks

One of the toughest problems addressed within ad hoc community (IETF MANET Working Group, 2000)(S Carson and J Macker), is to bring a valid QoS support within the current and future ad hoc models. This paper focuses on what is commonly admitted as ad hoc unpredictability, and presents ad hoc networks as possible candidates for an operational integration to the operators' global networks. This leads us to propose several possible ad hoc use cases, and then explain why it is more realistic to try to define simple metrics combinations related to a special use case. As a consequence, an ad hoc network user may experience nomadism through several ad hoc networks with different optimal QoS combinations. This leads us to show that an advanced distributed framework may support a multilayer and flexible QoS model that may vary, according to the global behavior of the network. We then describe the framework properties and show its engineering aspects.
