Secretion of testosterone by the pseudohermaphrodite rat.

In male pseudohermaphrodite rats (Ps) the mean testicular venous testosterone concentration was 1.1 μg/100 ml and increased 4-fold 30 min after HCG administration. By contrast, normal male litter mates (Nl) had a mean level of 4.1 μg/100 ml, which increased 7- fold with HCG. It was estimated that the Nl rats may have had a testosterone secretion rate 8 times that of Ps. The presence of a vagina in the Ps rats suggests that androgen secretion was defective in the fetus.
