STOL, A KEY TO AIRPORT ACCESS-STOL PORT DESIGN AND OPERATING CONSIDERATIONS

In providing access to major airports across the country, STOL aircraft, now successfully employed, are demonstrating a potential for the further development of air services. An important next step is the construction of a network of STOL ports; at major airports, in downtown areas, and in suburban locations. Questions of STOL port lengths, widths, and orientation, which are common to each of these sites, are discussed. All-weather operation, and questions of capacity and economics are discussed together with certain problems which are peculiar to the location of the STOL port.
