A Compact S-band Digital T/R module in Multi-function MIMO System

A compact S-band transmitting-receiving (T/R) module in massive MIMO is presented in this paper. This T/R module is tile-style which consists of two layers. It includes 16 digitalized channels with digital pre-distortion (DPD) function. The DPD feature enables use of high efficiency PAs, which is beneficial for both multi-function active electronically scanned array (AESA) and the 5th generation mobile communication system (5G). The T/R module is supposed to operate in either TDD or FDD mode. This T/R module has been used in 128-channel massive MIMO for 5G system, and also it has the potential for large-scale AESA.
