Electrochemical sensing of ascorbic acid by a novel manganese(III) complex

Abstract [Mn(Phimp) 2 ](ClO 4 ) complex was utilized for the electrochemical sensing of ascorbic acid (AA) with disposable gold-based compact disks (G-CDs) electrodes. On the Mn(III) complex-modified electrode the oxidation of AA can be carried out at lower potential and with higher current, due to the electrocatalytic activity of the Mn(III) complex layer. Furthermore, it exhibited an excellent selectivity to AA in the presence of possible interference compounds. The electrocatalytic mechanism was postulated to be governed by the Mn(III)/Mn(II) redox couple.
