The Study of Translation Process in Handling English and Chinese Lexical Gaps

Lexical gap,the absence in the target language of a ready expression conveyed by a word or idiom in the source language,is one of the barriers that hinder the communications between people from different countries.Proper handling of these gaps during translation is of great importance in cross-cultural communication.In this paper,Think-aloud protocols(TAPs) is to be conducted to study the process in handling lexical gaps.It is hoped that this research could provide some implication for translation research and teaching.
