Applying proportional hazards modelling in reliability

Abstract This paper describes the extension of the use of proportional hazards modelling (PHM) for both hardware and software reliability applications. As well as discussing the adaptation of PHM to diverse reliability data structures, developments in diagnostic aids employed to investigate model structure are discussed. Illustrative material is drawn from applications in railway engineering, computer systems, weapon systems, the electricity supply industry, computer software and electronic components.
