Multiagent-Based Scheduling and Execution of Activities for Space Systems

This paper presents the design and the preliminary experimental validation of an Artificial Intelligencebased scheduler intended to run onboard a space satellite. We developed the architecture of the proposed system according to a multiagent paradigm in which each agent is associated to a subsystem of the satellite. In this way, a number of benefits, including robustness, easy reuse of agents, and the possibility for the designer to focus on a small portion of the problem at a time, can be exploited. The experimental scenario is offered by Palamede, a Low Earth Orbit satellite under development at the Politecnico di Milano Aerospace Engineering Department.
