A novel photonic band gap structure for microstrip lines

A novel photonic band gap (PBG) structure is presented in this paper. With the features of easy package and not increasing the size of microstrip, the PBG units is directly etched on a microstrip line. Using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method, the S parameters of the new structure are obtained and the relationship between geometric parameters and S parameters is studied. The variation trends of central frequency and bandwidth along with geometric parameters are also dicussed.
