Read-Range Estimation of UHF-RFID Tags Placed Inside Metal Pipes

In some application scenarios, the detection of UHF RFID tags used to identify objects can not be estimated by using conventional propagation models. In this paper, a propagation model of a UHF RFID signal is analyzed when the tag is placed inside metal structures like drill pipes and aluminum rolls. Theoretical considerations have been discussed to give practical guidelines when a tagged metal pipe is interrogated by a commercial UHF RFID reader.
