Contrast limitations of dual electrochromic systems

An easy experimental method to optically characterize any combination of a dual electrochromic system as a function of the redox charge of its constituent materials is presented; contrary to what might be expected, the maximum contrast of one of the constituent materials is higher than that of the corresponding dual system.
