A centralized protection and control scheme for microgrid

The flexible operation modes of microgrid result in an extreme challenge for the protection and control of microgrid. Therefore, this paper proposed a centralized protection and control scheme for microgrid. To identify the faulted region conveniently, the microgrid is divided into several zones in advance. Intelligent circuit breakers communicate with each other, then send real-time information by channels to the central protection and control system (CPCS) for fault analysis. Taking advantage of characteristics of superimposed component currents through adjacent nodes, CPCS can fast identity the faulted zone. Additionally, an identification flowchart is also presented. A simple microgrid model is constructed using PSCAD, and simulation results show the validity of proposed centralized protection scheme.
