FINITE ELEMENT MODELLING OF ELECTROMAGNETIC SHIELDS IN SUPERCONDUCTING AC GENERATOR

Shield system of double-shielded Superconducting AC Generator(SCG) prevents the flux variation into the superconducting field winding. It is essential to analyze the role of shield system during the transient state for the design of shield system. This paper describes the finite element analysis of shield system. Transient characteristics of the shield system during three phase short and line-to-line short have been shown. Currents of field and armature winding have been also calculated. Most of ac component of flux variation has been blocked by the damper which is closer to the armature winding than the electro-thermal shield. In electro-thermal shield there exists only de component of flux variation. More stress is exerted on damper in line-to-line short than three phase short.
